Stokesley

Stokesley is an elegant town on the River Leven at the foot of the Cleveland Hills. The High Street, with College Square at one end and West Green at the other, is bounded by Georgian and Regency buildings. It is steeped in history and as a market town dates back to 1223 when it was first granted a charter to hold fairs. The weekly market is on Fridays.

Great Ayton

Situated at the foot of the Cleveland Hills, Great Ayton is an attractive village with two centers, High and Low Green linked by the River Leven.

The village was the childhood home of the famous explorer Captain James Cook RN, who lived in the village from the age of 8 to when he left at 16. The school where he was educated is now the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum which celebrates Cook's life and the locality.
